Australian Visitor Visas
Australia is a popular destination for people who want to take a holiday, visit family and friends, attend a special occasion or spend time exploring the country.
For many people, the appropriate visa will be the Visitor visa (subclass 600). However, applying for a Visitor visa is not always as simple as completing an application form and providing a passport. The Department will consider the applicant’s individual circumstances, including whether they genuinely intend to visit Australia temporarily.
At Graham-Nguyen & Associates, I assist clients with Australian Visitor visa applications throughout Singapore, Asia and internationally.
Australian Visitor Visa Information
I regularly publish practical information about Australian Visitor visas, including visa requirements, evidence and issues that can arise during the application process.
For an overview of what you can and cannot do on a Visitor visa, see:
Australian Visitor Visa: What Can You Do on a Visitor Visa?
I also discuss some of the more important issues that can affect Visitor visa applications, including how an applicant can demonstrate that they are a genuine temporary visitor to Australia.
Visitor Visa Applications
A Visitor visa application should properly explain the purpose of the proposed visit and provide appropriate evidence supporting the applicant’s circumstances.
Depending on the applicant, this may include evidence of their financial circumstances, employment, family and other ties outside Australia, previous travel history and the reasons they intend to visit Australia.
The appropriate evidence will depend on the individual circumstances of the applicant. There is no single set of documents that will guarantee that a Visitor visa application is successful.
This can be particularly important for applicants who are visiting family or a partner in Australia, or whose circumstances may raise questions about whether their proposed visit is genuinely temporary.
A carefully prepared application should present the applicant’s circumstances clearly and address any issues that may be relevant to the Department’s assessment.
