Accommodation: Ayers Rock

When you first arrive in Australia, renting accommodation is a good choice for new arrivals. Rental fees vary from AUD 100/week to AUD 250/Week, depending on location and facilities.  Large cities such as Sydney and Melbourne will generally be more expensive than smaller cities. You can also share rental accommodation with other people, which will lower the rental costs.  Shared accommodation will vary from AUD 50/Week to AUD 100/Week depending on how many people you share with. Rental fees are a major expense, generally taking up 30% of total living expense. Once you find a stable job, purchasing an apartment or house could be a good idea. In Australia, people can purchase property with 10% to 20% up front payment and then obtain a bank loan, which can last for up to 30 years. The websites of most banks will provide payment schedules and information on the amount you can borrow.  They also provide approximate guides to your monthly payments relative to your total base income, upfront payment, loan interest rate and payback years.  In general, the monthly payments on a mortgage will be similar with amount you would pay as rental fees.  This makes purchasing an apartment or house a good idea.

Food:

To save money, cooking by yourself at home is a good choice. For a couple, weekly food expenses will be around AUD 100, but this will depend on where you shop and the types of food you buy. Popular destinations for buying Asian food products in Melbourne are Victoria Street (Vietnam street), Victoria Market, Springvale and Boxhill Centre, where Asian food products are available at fair prices.  Often, in food markets, at closing time on Saturday evening shops will offer hot sales with discounts of up to 30%.
If you don’t want to cook by yourself, pizza is another good choice. Also Vietnamese sandwiches (Saigon Rolls) are very cheap at around AUD 2.20 a piece. Usually a meal from a fast food outlet will costs around AUD 5 to AUD 10. A better meal at Chinese or other Asian restaurant will cost around AUD 20 to AUD 30 per person.  However, prices for meals at restaurants vary considerably.
