Australia has one of the best health systems in the world.  People travel to Australia from all over the world to receive all types of medical treatment, from dental treatment to organ transplants.  Medical treatment visas allow you to travel to Australia to either receive pre arranged medical treatment or accompany and care for someone who plans to receive medical treatment in Australia.

There are Two Types of medical treatment visas:

•    Medical Treatment (Short Stay) Visa - for a stay of up to 3 months.
•    Medical Treatment (Long Stay) Visa - for a stay of between 3 and 12 months.

Please note that if you have a pre existing medical condition that you plan to seek treatment for in Australia, you should apply for a medical treatment visa rather than a tourist visa.

While a Medical Treatment Visa can be extended it generally does not establish a pathway to Australian permanent residency. Medical Treatment Visa holders would not be permitted to apply for Australian Skilled MIgration while in Australia.
